Getting Connected: Meisner Technique is a foundation practice in acting craft. Emotional opening, feeling/communication and being connected to your partners in the moment are core aspects of the “repetition” exercise.
Created by the renowned Sanford Meisner of the Neighbourhood Playhouse, repetition helps actors learn how to listen, how to answer, how to find your impulse, and how to follow your instincts. Meisner unlocks your emotional instrument, and teaches you how to work moment-to-moment. It will help actors create authentic presence – and a fresh, present aspect to your performance.
We recommend following a twice-per-week protocol to get this technique under control and make real progress in using this as a foundation for performance. If you cannot do this for scheduling or economic reasons, you can sign up for Saturday’s or Wednesday’s only, but it is not recommended if you can do the whole course.
Patrice Goodman is an actor, director, choreographer and teacher with 23 years of experience. Patrice’s stage credits include lead roles on stage and on TV both in Canada and the US. Patrice worked with esteemed Meisner coach Jacqueline McClintock in Toronto, in Munich and at the Mallorca Film Academy in Spain. She has also taught acting technique at Armstrong Acting Studios in Toronto.
